Week 13 Announcements: November 16-22

This season’s program includes works by new faculty member and alumnus Daniel Roberts, former dancer with the Merce Cunningham Company; Distinguished Professor Bebe Miller; and a Doug Varone piece staged by guest artist Eddie Taketa, a Bessie-award winning choreographer and 20-year member of the Doug Varone Company. New “short” works created by Mitchell Rose, Norah Zuniga Shaw and a dance-and-glass piece by Dave Covey will also be spotlighted. If you want to arrive early, check out the Riffe Gallery, open until 6pm on Friday, where Globe Trot (a Mitchell Rose film with choreography by Bebe Miller) will be screened.

Reminder: Masterclasses on Friday, November 13:  Instructors include Ann Sofie Clemmensen, John Luna and special guest, Randy Skinner.

The Columbus Foundation seeks Summer Fellows to be matched with local nonprofit organization.  Both graduates and undergraduates can apply.  The deadline for application is Friday, December 4. Information.

Abstracts for Hayes Graduate Research Forum are due by Friday, November 13. Information.

Faculty Fellows Program is open to all new and/or recent PhD and terminal Master's degree recipients. The program is aimed at candidates interested in pursuing a career in undergraduate teaching and scholarship at a liberal arts institution. Registration and application.

The CIC Smithsonian Institution Fellowship is due by December 1. Information and application.

OSU Graduate School's Preparing Future Faculty Program will accept applications in February 2016. Information.

Registration for the Geography Bowl are due Friday, November 13. The Bowl takes place on Thursday, November 19 from 5-8:30pm; and Friday, November 20 from 5-6:30pm. There are cash prizes, including $1,000 for first place. Information and registration.

Study & Work Abroad Panel on Wednesday, November 18 from 5:30-6:30pm in the Younkin Success Center, Room 150.  Hear from a panel of 5 professionals with experience working and studying abroad.  There will be pizza and networking post-meeting.

Integrated Biomedical Sciences hosts a panel on Graduate School Application and Interview Preparation on Thursday, November 19 from 6-7pm in the Biomedical Research Tower Room 115. Refreshments provided. RSVP via email.

The International Academic Enrichment Grant Competition applications for faculty and students are due Tuesday, December 1, 2015. Information.

Injury Check Time Extended: Due to the high volume of need and the continued care the Department of Dance wants to provide, the morning Open Clinic hours for injury checks & consuls will be extended to 7am - 10am in Sullivant Hall, Conditioning Room 291.

Ballet Hispanico's Feature Film, Carmen, premieres in theaters on Thursday, November 12 at 7pm. You can catch it at AMC Lennox Town Center. Information.

David Dorfman Dance Winter Intensive at Gibney Dance runs January 11-16, 2016.  Register by November 20 to receive a discount. Information.

Dr. Elena Bodrova is offering a Professional Development Workshop on executive functions of the brain and early childhood education on Friday, November 13, 9-3pm.  The workshop will take place at BalletMet Columbus and the registration fee is $20.  For questions or to RVSP email Melanie Ryan.

Ohio Has Talent auditions on Friday, November 13 from 5-9pm and Saturday, November 14 from 9am-2pm at the Trinity Friends Church, 605 N. Franklin Street in Van Wert.

Commercial Dance Intensive at UNSCA auditions are open from October 1, 2015 until March 1, 2016. Applications are online only, and spots are first come, first served. Information.

Lehrer Dance Company will hold auditions for male and female dancers age 21 and over on Thursday, December 10 at 1:30pm (sign-in begins at 1pm). Auditions will take place at Visceral Dance Center in Chicago, IL. Bring headshot and resume. Lehrer Dance is based out of Buffalo, NY. Information.

Opportunity to attend lecture with Steve Martino, director of The Peanuts Movie during the regularly scheduled History of Animation course, 9:35-10:55am in the Wexner Film/Video Theatre.  Students are also invited to attend a private screening of the movie at 3:30pm that same day. Registration for lecture required by Monday, November 16.

Applications for performers for TEDxOhioState are due by Monday, November 30 with auditions to follow.  This year's theme is "Reconstructing Reality," and takes place on March 5, 2016. Information.

Call for Performance Submissions for OhioDance Spring 2016. All interested applicants should submit a portfolio of their work in the OhioDance office by Friday, December 4. Information.

Call for Submissions to New Moves - a live choreographic competition in Chicago. The competition takes place on Thursday, December 17. There is a $500 cash prize. Registration.

American College Dance Association (ACDA) will take place in Kalamazoo, MI from Saturday, March 5 - Wednesday, March 8, 2016. OSU was one of the founding members of ACDA and students are strongly encouraged to participate; conferences are filled with performances from schools around the region as well as masterclasses from faculty and graduate students at those institutions.
