Week 9 Announcements : October 19-25


It's Grad Day: Support MFA and PhD students by attending the Graduate Research Forum and the Second Year Showing on Monday, October 19.  The Forum is in Room 225 at 12:30pm, and the Showing is at 7pm in the Barnett.  Information and tickets.

Undergraduate Auditions scheduled for Friday & Saturday, October 23-24. If you are interested in being a student ambassador, please email Noelle Bohaty with your availability from 8am-3pm on either day.

The OSU Department of Dance remembers Dr. Vera Maletic, who "influenced generations of colleagues and students," states Chair Susan Hadley. "We mourn her passing and celebrate her legacy..."  Information.

Visiting Assistant Professor Sofie Clemmensen seeks a BFA Dance Major interested in performance & choreography to be a rehearsal assistant for a residency in spring 2016. Applicants must submit a one-page essay stating interest, qualifications and how the opportunity will serve future goals; must be available from March 13-20, 2016. Have an outstanding GTA? Want to recognize them for their efforts? The nominations for Graduate Associate Teaching Awards are due November 9. Information.

The John Fergus Family Scholarship Application calls for entries from full-time undergraduates and graduates in studio based majors in the Arts. The scholarship is $1,000 to be applied to materials. Finalists will exhibit selected work in January 2016 at Urban Arts Space. Applications are due by 5pm on December 1, 2015. Information.

OhioDance Festival Fall 2015: The OhioDance Festival is schedule for October 23-25, 2015.  Masterclass instructors include Kyle AbrahamInformation.

MFA Concert of existence: and ways of being features works from 3rd year MFA grads Noelle Bohaty, s.lumbert and Brandon Whited. Performances are Thursday - Saturday, October 29-31 at 8pm (3pm matinee on Saturday, October 31). Information.

Geoff Sobelle, illusionist and physical theatre artist presents The Object Lesson, a work about "the stuff that we cling to and the junk we leave behind," performing at the Wexner Center for the Arts Wednesday - Saturday, October 28-31 at 8pm, and Saturday, October 31 at 2pm. Information.

Doug Varone and Dancers: at Connecticut College in New London, CT on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30pm. Information.

More performances...

Pamela Sofras is offering a Professional Development Workshop in early childhood STEM education and movement on Friday, October 23, 9-3pm.  The workshop will take place at BalletMet Columbus and the registration fee is $20.  For questions or to RVSP email Melanie Ryan.

Commercial Dance Intensive at UNSCA auditions are open from October 1, 2015 until March 1, 2016. Applications are online only, and spots are first come, first served. Information.

Short North Stage will hold auditions for their upcoming season on Saturday, October 24 at 10am. All roles are paid a weekly salary. To request an audition, send headshot and resume to E. Carignan.

Easton Holiday Showcase auditions Sunday, October 25 from 1-4pm for 6-week holiday review at Easton Town Center. Needed: 4 singers who move, and 2 dancers who sing, between the ages 20 and 50. Information.

Adjudications for ACDA 2016 & Winter Concert will take place on Saturday, October 31 at 9am in the Barnett Theatre. There is a strict 12 minute time limit for works in ACDA, and all cast members must be enrolled in the 2015/2016 academic year. Both undergraduates and graduates are encouraged to audition works.

Kim Robards Dance will hold auditions for male and female dancers by appointment or audition packet for positions beginning in January 2016.  They are also accepting audition packets for Trainee, Apprentice and Summer Intensive Company Project programs.  Kim Robards Dance is a Modern Dance Company based in Aurora, CO.  Information.

American College Dance Association (ACDA) will take place in Kalamazoo, MI from Saturday, March 5 - Wednesday, March 8, 2016. OSU was one of the founding members of ACDA and students are strongly encouraged to participate; conferences are filled with performances from schools around the region as well as masterclasses from faculty and graduate students at those institutions. Talk to Michael Kelly Bruce for more information.

Jacob's Pillow Dance Festive calls for applications to perform as part of the 2106 Inside/Out Series from June 22-August 28, 2016. Applications can include all varieties of performance, audience engagement, works-in-progress or educational proposal. Applications are due October 31, 2015Information.

Because thinking triggers muscular activity, incorporating imagery into dancing has a direct effect on movement. Images can enhance movement qualities when based on an accurate body map.
