Week 4 Announcements: September 14-20

NEWS + UPDATES
Welcome to new Assistant Professor, Daniel Roberts! As a member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Roberts had the opportunity to perform a vast repertory and create several original roles in Cunningham's choreography.  He staged Cunningham's work on other dance companies and appeared in several of Cunningham's works for camera, most notably in Charles Atlas' film Merce Cunningham: A Liftetime of Dance.  Roberts has an MFA in Performing Arts from Bennington College and his choreography has been presented in New York at Danspace Project and Movement Research, as well as Copenhagen. Read more.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
The Columbus Foundation is seeking applications for the 2015-2016 Fundraising and Development Fellowship. The program is geared for seniors interested in nonprofits and development. The stipend is $3,000. Applications are due by noon on Monday, September 14. Information.

Undergraduate Research Scholarships: The application deadline is September 21, 2015.  This scholarship ranges from $500-$6,000 in the autumn semester.  Information.

LET'S DANCE
OhioDance Festival Fall 2015: The OhioDance Festival is schedule for October 23-25, 2015. Masterclass instructors include Kyle Abraham. Information.

Hubbard Street is hosting its annual Fall Workshop with a focus on choreographer William Forsythe.  Hubbard Street is based in Chicago, IL. Information.

SEE ART
Berry & Nance Dance Project present Male Tales: When A Black Man Dances on Friday, September 11 at 8pm.  Performance takes place at the Lincoln Theatre. Student tickets are $15. For tickets, call (614) 469-0939. Information.

The Dance Dreamer (and Other Hysterics): A Dance Theatre performance presented along with new dance and video works by the Columbus Moving Company on Friday & Saturday, September 11/12 at 8pm, and Sunday, September 13 at 2pm. This original work was conceived by John Giffin, former member of the Pina Bausch Dance Theatre Company and OSU Dance Faculty Emeritus, and Jeanine Thompson, OSU Dance alum and Theatre Movement Specialist faculty. Performances take place at The Garden Theatre. Tickets.

PhD student Janet Schroeder is performing Saturday September 12 at 1:10-1:30pm at the Hot Times Community Music and Art Festival on the Parsons Stage, with Movement Afoot Tap Dancers directed by Lauren Squires. Squires is an Assistant Professor in the OSU English Department. Information.

Choreographer Jan Martens at the Wexner Center: Two shows on four nights, Sweat Baby Sweat and The Dog Days Are Over on October 8 & 9 at 8pm and October 11 at 2pm & October 12 at 8pm. Student tickets are $10. Get your tickets NOW they are almost gone.

AUDITIONS
NEO Dance Theatre will audition community dancers for productions of The Legend of Dracula (October 2015) and The Nutcracker (December 2015). Auditions are September 12 & 13 in Mansfield, OH.  There is a $5 audition fee. Information.

Seven Dance Company will hold open auditions on October 3, 2015 at 12pm for a project in March/April 2016.  They are seeking dancers and choreographers.  Seven Dance Company is based in Lewis Center, OH but will be teaming up with Paul M. Sutter of OSU for this project.  Information.

Kim Robards Dance will hold auditions for male and female dancers by appointment or audition packet for positions beginning in January 2016.  They are also accepting audition packets for Trainee, Apprentice and Summer Intensive Company Project programs.  Kim Robards Dance is a Modern Dance Company based in Aurora, CO.  Information.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
Dancewave is hosting Dancing Through College and Beyond for high school seniors on Sunday, October 18 from 8:30-6pm. This event is a free way to check out college dance programs.  Registration required. Information.

SHOUT-OUTS! 
BFA student Mimi Lamantia is making waves with her Argentine Tango for Cancer Survivors, funded by her Pelotonia Fellowship. Mimi is currently preparing for her second session, which will run October 1 - December 10. There are still opening for dancers as well as survivors. Information.
