The OSU Department of Dance makes an "O" for
OHIO at the opening semester meeting
Welcome back and GO BUCKS!

Please welcome prospective MFA and PhD students to our home if you see them around for their auditions on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Auditions for the Spring 2016 Brazil Tour: Sunday, February 1 from 12-3pm.

Nominations are open for the Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Award, which celebrates and rewards diversity efforts on OSU's campus, and the Distinguished Staff Award, which honors 12 staff members for significant leadership, accomplishments, and service to the university. Nominations are due by Monday, February 9th.

GRAD NEWS

Grad auditions are January 15-17! 

Teaching Orientation Facilitator applications available: Each year UCAT hires GTAs with at least two terms of teaching experience to lead sessions for new TAs in August. Compensation ranges from $50-200 per session. More information.

UCAT spring schedule of events is now available. UCAT offers a variety of workshops for GTAs each semester, including sessions on grading, suicide prevention, and presentation skills. More information.

UNDERGRAD NEWS

2nd Annual CalArts @ Dance Camera West Emerging Artists Competition: The Emerging Artists Competition welcomes submissions of dance media in any dance style or genre. The competition includes two categories--high school and undergraduate college--and allows students to compete only with other students. Submissions are due January 16. Information.

Undergraduate scholarship applications are due February 6

Represent Ohio State in New Zealand this summer! Apply to present your research on climate change, migration, physical and cultural landscapes, identity, indigenous studies, and social structures at the Undergraduate Research Conference at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Three students will be selected for this all-expenses paid trip. More information. Applications are due Monday, February 9. More information.

Undergraduate Summer Funding Research Awards: These $3,500 funding awards support full-time, faculty-supervised undergraduate research or creative activity projects over 10 weeks in summer semester 2015. Applications are due February 15. Information.

LET'S DANCE AND TALK ABOUT DANCE + ART


Barnett Speaker Series: "The Artist Entrepreneur." Alexis Wilson, author, dancer, producer and director, and Byron Stripling, musician, conductor, actor, singer, and artistic director, will talk about what it takes to sustain successful careers as creatives, maintain a family, and continue the creative process. Their talk will take place on Wednesday, January 21 from 4:30-6:00pm in the Collaboratory (141). More information.

DANCE + ARTS OPPORTUNITIES

Jacob's Pillow Summer Festival internships: PhD Janet Schroeder and alum Daniel Diller have both spoken highly of their experiences interning at this world-renowned dance festival. The internship program provides room and board, stipends, college credit, staff-led seminars and workshops, free performances and free dance classes. Dates: May 26-September 3. Applications due January 16. More information.

DanceCamera West seeks submissions for its 14th Annual Film Festival, Catch! Deadline: January 16th. More information.

The Columbus Foundation's Summer Fellowship program is a ten week program that places students with local non-profits. Fellowship recipients receive a $5000 stipend. Applications are due January 16. More information.

International Association of Blacks in Dance conference is January 21-25 in Cleveland. The conference features classes, performances, speakers, panels, and workshops. More information.

Dancing Wheels Company, America's first, professional, physically integrated company, seeks a male dancer for an immediate position. To audition on January 31 at 11am in Cleveland, interested candidates should send a letter of interest and head shot to President/Founding Artistic Director Mary Verdi-Fletcher, or call (216) 432-0306.

America's Got Talent auditions will take place in a variety of cities in 2015, including Chicago on January 24-25. More information.

The Spring 2015 Repertory Company was awarded a $2000 Pinchuk Arts Community Grant to support their touring work this semester. Congratulations!

External Relations Coordinator Dori Jenks was awarded an Above and Beyond Buckeye Award on January 8. These awards, given by Executive Dean David C. Manderscheid and the Arts and Sciences Staff Advisory Council (SAC), recognize arts and sciences staff members who go above and beyond and do great work each and every day. Congratulations, Dori!
