Week 10 Announcements: October 27-31

NEWS + UPDATES

GRAD DAY is this Monday, October 27! See what the MFAs and PhDs are up to this semester, beginning with the PhD Research Forum at 12:30pm in room 220, featuring presentations by Ron Altman, Kelly Klein, and Kimberly Wilczak. Then, come see work by Second Year MFAs Quilan Arnold, Kristina D'Onofrio, Jessica Cavendar, Rachel Freeburg, Sarah Levitt, and Brandon Whited in the Second Year Show at 7pm in the Barnett Theater. The performance will be followed by a Q & A led by Dr. Veronica Dittman-Stanich. You must reserve tickets to attend the show by emailing secondyearmfas@gmail.com.

Edward S. "Beanie" Drake Scholarship: Established in 1950, the purpose of the “Beanie” Drake Scholarship is to provide funds to enable deserving students to participate in campus activities when need might otherwise make it difficult or impossible for them to do so. Applications are due December 10. More information.

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

The Barbara and Sheldon Pinchuk Arts-Community Outreach Grant is open for educational and outreach projects connecting the visual and performing arts at The Ohio State University with the Columbus community. Applications are due Monday, December 15. More information here.

The Pelotonia Fellowship Program provides one-year research fellowships to the best and brightest OSU undergraduate students who want to help cure cancer. Cancer is a complex disease and curing it will take a multidisciplinary effort. So, no matter what the field of study, from traditional scientific fields to fields like engineering, history and business, all OSU undergraduate students may apply. More information here.

LET'S DANCE AND TALK ABOUT DANCE + ART

PhD Research Forum: October 27 at 12:30pm in room 220. Undergrads, grads, faculty and staff are invited to attend this semester's PhD research forum. Ron Altman, Kelly Klein, and Kimberly Wilczak will present; Alex Harlig will moderate.

Dr. Kosstrin will lead a Table Talk on October 27 from 4:00-5:00pm for the Jewish Studies Student Association called “Jewish Dance: More than the Hora!” in the University Hall Museum (first floor of University Hall). This is a series sponsored by the Melton Center for Jewish Studies. Each month, a different faculty member leads an informal discussion on a topic related to their work. It is open to all.

Curated Conversation at the Pizzuti Collection: October 27, 6:00pm at 632 N. Park Street. OSU professors Hannah Kosstrin and Robin Judd discuss two films by Ori Gersht with Pizzuti Collection Director Rebecca Ibel and Assistant Curator Greer Pagano, including Will You Dance for Me featuring Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company founder Yehudit Arnon. Admission to the Pizzuti Collection is free with student ID. More information.

SEE ART

2nd Year Show features works by second-year MFA students. October 27, 7pm. The performance will be immediately followed by a talkback led by Dr. Veronica Dittman-Stanich. Space is limited: email secondyearmfas@gmail.com to reserve tickets.

SightLines, a site-specific performance by Third Year MFA Rachel Barker will be performed on Wednesday, October 29th at 12:15 and 12:30pm. Dancers will perform a site-specific work under the white scaffolding structure at the Wexner building. Don't miss it! (Rain date: Friday, October 31st at 12:15 pm).

ZviDance performs in Cincinnati at the Aronoff Arts Center from October 31-November 1. Tickets and information.

XClaim Dance Company presents Blue November 7-9 and 13-16 at Columbus Dance Theatre's Fisher Theater. More information.

DANCE OPPORTUNITIES

UCLA World Arts & Cultures/Dance Department is now accepting applications for its MA, MFA and PhD programs. Applications are due November 1.

Call for Proposals: Second International Conference on Somatics-Based Dance Education from July 15-19, 2015 at Dean College. Proposals are due December 10. More information.

American Dance Festival Winter Intensive applications are now available! This year, you can choose to study for ten days in New York City or five days in Pasadena, California. Register before October 20 and the $20 application fee will be waived.

Diavolo Dance Company is holding auditions for male and female touring company members for the 2014-2015 season on December 13 in LA.

Call for Submissions: OhioDance's 2015 Spring Festival seeks submissions for the evening performance on April 25. Deadline is December 5. More information.
