The show features the senior projects of bachelor of fine arts (BFA) candidates, as well as works created by other undergraduate and graduate dance students. Sneak Peek will be the first dance concert in the new Barnett Theatre, a 180-seat, black-box theatre on the historic building’s third floor. PREAMBLE: A Senior Process. April 14-15, 2014. 12:300pm on Monday, April 14, and 6:00pm on Tuesday, April 15, in the Barnett Theatre, Sullivant Hall. PREAMBLE is an informal showing of BFA senior Clara Martinez' choreographic work, based on the practices of rehearsing dance projects. It consists of five soloists (Josh Hines, Gracie Millette, Aimee Heslop, Ella Matweyou, and Stacy Shelts), who will be performing their solos in a loop at the above times.

Taking Back the Short End. April 18-19, 2014. 7:00pm on Friday, April 18, and 2:00pm on Saturday, April 19, at Skylab - 57 E. Gay St. Taking Back the Short End will be a unique, intimate experience for viewing dance, as the audience will occupy the same close-quarters as the performers. Apres moi, le deluge, by Paige Phillips, is constructed as surreal vignettes whose imagery is pulled from the choreographer’s recurring dreams about floods and tsunamis. Aesthetics are inspired by Francisco Goya’s series of paintings about the supernatural. Abby Zbikowski’s new work, Unstable Stable, addresses chaos and collision head on. This new project was originally conceived for 16 dancers, a number that dwindled down to 4 due of successive extenuating circumstances. The final work is a demonstration of how we try to find coherence, security, and purpose throughout the process of dealing with variables that are out of our control. Admission is $5, cash only.

America to China and Back. April 17-18, 2014. 8:00pm at the Riffe Center Studio Two Theatre, 77 S. High St.The Department of Dance presents America to China and Back, a stateside reprise of the contemporary dance program performed by Ohio State dance students led by Susan Van Pelt Petry in China in March. The dancers were part of a larger group of Ohio State students - including the Jazz Ensemble and a Beat-box Club - who traveled to China to share their unique American art forms with audiences in cities and universities there. Their trip was partially funded by a grant awarded to the Center of American Culture collaboratively directed by Ohio State and Wuhan University (WHU) in Hubei Province. Tickets are $20 general admission; $15 senior citizens; $10 OSU faculty / staff / students (w ID) and children. Discounted tickets may only be purchased via the Ohio State Theatre Box Office: 614 292-2295. Tickets also available online via Ticketmaster.
