Week 10 Announcements: March 7-13, 2014

This week's blog features Special Events and Professional Opportunities.

 SPECIAL EVENTS

DANCE@30FPS. Thursday, March 20, 2014. 7:00pm at the Gateway Film Center, 1550 N High Street, Columbus. DANCE@30FPS will feature first a program of award-winning short films curated from around the world.  This includes the US premiere of Globe Trot, the new film by Mitchell Rose and Bebe Miller. Following that is the festival-sensation Trash Dance. Choreographer Allison Orr finds grace in garbage trucks, and in the unseen men and women who pick up our trash. We follow Orr as she rides along with Texas sanitation workers to create a most unlikely spectacle. On an abandoned airport runway, two dozen trash collectors and their trucks deliver a stunningly beautiful performance in front of an audience of thousands. The short films program will begin at 7:00pm and Trash Dance at 8:30pm. Tickets: $5 admits to both programs. Follow the link to the Facebook event, and watch a preview trailer on Vimeo.

Comparison as Method: Katherine Hayles lecture on Comparative Textual Media. Friday, March 28, 2014. 2:30pm - 4:30pm at the 18th Ave. Library, Rooms 070 and 090. This is a must see lecture by Katherine Hayles, one of the great minds helping us think about our bodies in relationship to our technologies, film studies, and research methods. This event is highly recommended for artists and scholars and artist/scholars alike, and our own Harmony Bench is a commentator.

Graduate Research Forum. Monday, March 31, 2014. 12:30-2:00, location TBA. Come see presentations from graduate students on the research that they are conducting here.

Graduate Choreography Showing. Monday, March 31, 2014. 7:30 at Barnett Theater in Sullivant Hall, with a pre-show reception at 7:00. Rough works in progress, shown with no theatrical lighting and limited seating. Free and open to the public.

 ADMINISTRAIVE REMINDERS

Please put on shoes (Sullivant Slippers) when leaving a studio and running to a bathroom.  Socks or bare feet visiting bathrooms, running down halls, and then dancing around studio floors do not make ideal dancing conditions when you have to roll around and do floor work. Thank you!

 KUDOS & SHOUT-OUTS

Congratulations to the cast of Re: flect | peat | dact | start for a terrific performance and two sold-out shows at BalletMet last weekend.

If you would like to share any events on the OSUDance Blog, send information to Owen David at david.82 by Wednesday evening for inclusion in the following weekend's blog post.

Lastly, everyone enjoy a wonderful spring break!!!
