Masterclass: Marlayna Locklear of Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. October 18, 2013, 10:20am-12pm in Pomerene 316. Marlayna Locklear hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has been immersed in dance since the age of 12. She began her training at City Ballet Theatre under the direction of Marjorie Yoshida and Lee Palmer. She later attended Milwaukee High School of the Arts and became a founding member of Milwaukee Dance Connection. Ms. Locklear received her BFA in Dance Performance from the University of the Arts with a focus in ballet and jazz. While in college she was a member of Eleone Dance Theatre and since then went on to join Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble and Dallas Black Dance Theatre. A member of DCDC since 2008, Locklear teaches master classes and choreographs throughout the U.S.

Celebrating 45 years of artistic excellence, the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company is a culturally diverse contemporary dance company committed to reaching the broadest audience through exceptional performance and arts-integrated education.

Master Jazz Class: Jill Guyton Nee. Sunday, October 13, 2013. 2-3:30pm in Pomerene 205. Free Jazz class based on Broadway and contemporary Jazz ideas. Class includes isolations, conditioning and strengthening, intricate weight shifts, progressions, and fun phrase work. In the process of creating a teaching reel, a videographer will be in the room filming Jill and you! Only 20 spots available, so email Jill Nee (.11) to register.

Dance 7405, SP14 – The Black Continuum in American Dance. Instructor: Melanye White Dixon. Grad Seminar, Class #29027. 2 credits. TTh 8:30-10:05am. 18th Avenue Library, Room 270. Examines dance genres, communities, and cultural workers (visionary dancers, teachers, and choreographers) that have shaped the Black Continuum in American dance from the antebellum era to the present. Central to the discourse will be an analysis of dance aesthetics, form, and function within a social, cultural, historical, and political context. No prerequisite: Open to all OSU students.

Dance 2367H, SP14 – Writing for Dance. Instructor: Elizabeth Escosa Carter. Class #30986, 3 credits.. TTh 3:55-5:15pm. Pomerene 208. Provides a rigorous opportunity to view, discuss, read, think and write about contemporary dance and its history through the study and practice of criticism. Prerequisite: Honors standing, and English 1110.01 (110) or equiv, or permission of instructor. Meets Writing and Communication Level 2 GE requirement for Honors students.

ACCAD 7892, SP14 – Collaborative Interdisciplinary Research Studio Experience. ACCAD 7893-10. Instructor: Norah Zuniga-Shaw. Class # 32623, 3 credits. TTh 12:45-2:30pm. Interdisciplinary investigations around the use of technology in creative research applications. Theatre 7899.05, SP14 – Acting the Body/Dancing the Word: Dance and Physical Theatre, 1900-present. TTh 3-5:05. Drake Union 2068. Instructor: Dr Karen Mozingo.

Chemistry 1100, SP14 – Chemistry in Society. 3 credits. Offered as an on-line course with no recitation and no lab, perfectly serving students who need a GE/GEC Physical Science course. Chem 1100 + Chem 1110 can form a Physical Science sequence for quarter to semester students earning a BA.

Graduate and Professional School Expo. Tuesday, October 22, 2013. 11am-3pm, Ohio Union Grand Ballroom. 100+ graduate and professional schools in healthcare, law, business, humanities, education and other academic areas. Explore a variety of post-graduate education possibilities. Admission free, dress is casual.

The Spring 2014 Theater Department Lab Series is open! The Lab Series supports students experients in theatrical production, by providing basic technical personnel, a basic lighting and sound package, marketing, a small 50-seat performance space, box office personnel, and the right to cast out of the theater department audition pool. A student panel selects amongst applicants. IF your project is selected, you will be assigned a performance date in Spring 2014 and have meetings scheduled to get your project off the ground. Travel & Study Abroad
The application deadline for the U.S., Europe, and the Second World War May Session Study Abroad Program is October 15, 2013. This program allows students from all backgrounds and majors the unique opportunity to study World War II where it happened years ago. During the month of May, students will travel to powerful historical World War II sites, museums, and memorials in prominent locations in Germany, France, and England.
