Week 2 Announcements: August 23-29, 2013

Welcome back! To all the new students: HELLO! This is the OSU Dance weekly blog blast, in which we share all the exciting dance events happening in the upcoming weeks. This is our medium for announcing important administrative information, job openings, internship listings, funding opportunities, masterclasses, auditions, academic deadlines, and more, so be sure to read it each week! You can also check the OSUdance Professional Resources Binder on Springpad (for updates and details, and Like OSU Dance on Facebook to have us pop up on your newsfeed. 

If you would like to have anything announced on the blog, email Owen David describing the event and providing details such as date, time, and location. The blog goes out at the end of each week – contact Owen by Wednesday evening if you would like your post blasted that following Friday.

We’re already off to a great semester, with two performances by OSUDance students and alumnae scheduled for next week. Here we go – with momentum!

Casting Auditions for Dance Downtown and Drums Downtown are this Saturday! Details and schedule available here.

Teachable Moments. A Solo Performance by David Thill (BFA candidate OSU Dance). Presented as part of the Department of Theatre Lab Series. Monday, August 26 and Tuesday, August 27, 2013. 7pm at the New Works Lab, Drake Performance and Event Center (Second Floor). Free Admission.

Out of Cast and Cave. New work choreographed by Leigh Lotocki. Presented as part of the current exhibition, Donald Lokuta: Plato’s Cave – Segal’s Studio. Thursday, August 29, 2013. 50 W Town St, Lazarus Building, Columbus. Performance by Leigh Lotocki and Amanda Platt (both OSU Dance BFA alumnae). Music performed by percussionists Kevin Estes and Johnny Mendoza (DMA candidates in the OSU School of Music). Free admission to the gallery and performance. Light refreshments will be served. Special preview performance on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 10:45am, immediately followed by a Theory & Practice Roundtable discussion at Urban Arts Space, featuring Out of Cast and Cave performers as well as Richard Fletcher (curator and Associate Professor, Classics), Donald Lokuta (Professor at Kean University), and Danielle Julian Norton (sculpture artist and Professor at CCAD).

Our stalwart leader Susan Petry has been honored with the Raymond J. Hanley Award, a large grant supporting her continued artistic achievement. Congrats Susan!

MFA alumnus Stacy Reischman Fletcher, Chair of the Department of Dance at Southern Methodist University in Hattiesburg, MS, has been recognized with a 2013 Dance Teacher Award from Dance Teacher Magazine.
