Abby Zbikowski will teach a Contemporary Fusion technique class M-F from 9-10:30am. An excellent way to keep moving, especially for those of you going abroad or to other festivals this summer and are really wanting to stay both physically and mentally active. Abby offers a fusion of contemporary approaches to movement with an emphasis on African Diasporic dance forms, such as House and current contemporary African dance techniques. Through this fusion of ideas, this class investigates the spectrum of ways that various cultures approach the moving body and how this information can be applied to what you are focused on as a dancer. Abby is excited to be teaching in this intensive environment, and looks forward to sharing her energy and early mornings with you all.
Paige Philips will also offer a course, Interdisciplinary Connections: Games, Scores, and Everyday Performances. This course will be 2 credits, meet M-F 1:30-4:30pm. In this multidisciplinary arts course, students will delve further into their personal work while garnering perspectives from other disciplines. We will ask how games, scores and performances in everyday life can be utilized in contemporary art practices as both structure and conceptual framework. Students will be exposed to a variety of art disciplines, and they may engage in work including but not limited to the fields of dance, visual arts, performance art, music, theater, video or sound art, social practices, and conceptual art. Anyone working in an art discipline or related field is encouraged to take the class, and all unique perspectives will be welcomed.
