MFA Showing: Cornering a Hare. Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 6:30-8pm and Friday-Saturday, March 1-2, 2013 - 4:30-6pm at the Urban Arts Space, 50 West Town Street. Cornering a Hare by Paige Phillips includes four performance based installations that are looped and informed by one another. The works revolve around a common theme: the reimagining of religious and folk traditions into a contemporary art practice. Pilgrimage, trance, meditation, and gestures found in the Catholic church, kawaii, and Renaissance iconography will be examined. The evening includes dance, performance, and visual art, and it explores what is the boundary between high art and folk art.

Polyphony. Thursday-Saturday, March 7-9, 2013 in Mount Hall Studio Theatre (1050 Carmack Road). Polyphony is an integrated performance event featuring multiple artistic forms and performers. The choreographies, musical compositions, scripts, visual art pieces, and theatrical designs were created in tandem so that every piece is a collaborative sum of its parts. The process of each piece synthesized independent artistic voices from various disciplines to create one cohesive work. Features choreography by Cheyenne Abel and Rachel Switlick. Showings will be as follows: Thursday, March 7 at 8pm; Friday, March 8 at 8pm; Saturday, March 9 at 2pm and 8pm. Free admission, reservation required. To make a reservation, email with name, requested show dates, and number of seats needed. Print email confirmation to use as your ticket.

Diane Wondisford will visit the OSU campus February 24–26, 2013. Please join us for her teaching and research presentations:

Monday, February 25, 2013; 9:30–11am (teaching) at 156 University Hall. Topic: Integrating Technology:  +'s and -'s of Crowdsourcing, Big Data, DIY, and Multiple Platforms. Students, staff and faculty are invited to drop in, or review the materials below in preparation for her presentation.

Tuesday, February 26, 2013; 8:45–9:45am (research) at 1080 Physics Research Building. Students, staff and faculty are invited to drop in and hear about Diane's research and creative work.

Diane Wondisford is the President and Producing Director of Music-Theatre Group in Brooklyn, NY. Wondisford oversees the making of music-theatre from scratch. She works with composers, writers, directors, designers, and performing companies from the conceptual phase of an idea to the final product of performance and creation. Prior to her current role, Wondisford, in a twenty year partnership with the Group’s founder, Lyn Austin, produced the legendary JUAN DARIEN by Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal; MARCO POLO by Tan Dun and Paul Griffiths; and RUNNING MAN by Diedre Murray and Cornelius Eady, directed by Diane Paulus, among other landmark works.  She also lead MTG in worldwide touring to 14 cities with the works originated at MTG by Martha Clarke and Richard Peaslee, Richard Foreman and Stanley Silverman, and Julie Taymor and Elliot Goldenthal.  For the Summers of 2005 & 2006, she crafted and co-directed a summer music-theatre immersion course affiliated with the School of Drama at the New School during which acclaimed Broadway directors and performers conducted a series of master classes.

May Term Course Offerings at the Department of Dance! Registration begins Monday, February 25, 2013. For our first May Term, the department is offering: two dance history courses, Dance in Popular Culture and Western Concert Dance; a studio-based interdisciplinary creative workshop, and a technique class for dance majors and others by permission.Visit our May Term Course Offering event page for more details, and help us spread the word!
