MFA Event: Library Dance Works. Monday, February 4, 2013. 12:15pm in Thompson Library. Brian Devine experiments with site dance for his final project, exploring the ways in which the dance is informed by the space in which it is performed. Free admission.

Tickets are free, but there are no online sales and they must be picked up at the Kuss Auditorium box office in advance. Split Marbles. February 14-15, 2013; 8 pm & February 16, 2013; 3 pm and 8 pm at EMMA Lab at ACCAD, 1224 Kinnear Rd. Katie Aylward presents Take It Outside, a multimedia performance that explores nature within urban environments. Erik Speth’s Split Marbles looks at distance creation and community through the construction of a dance work. Boxing up Beautiful, by Crystal Fuller, is an intermedia work that deconstructs the 200-year visual history of black women’s bodies in American popular culture. Free, but RSVP required.
Weekend of Contact Improvisation. February 22-24, 2013 in Ann Arbor, MI. OSU Contact Club officers Shannon Drake and Josh Hines invite you to join them on a road trip to Ann Arbor! The weekend’s workshops will be led by Daniel Burkholder, Director of The PlayGround and Co-Director of Improv Arts in Washington DC, and accompanied by electronic violin musician Dixon’s Violin. May Term Course Planning Meeting. Monday, February 18, 2013. 12:30pm in Pomerene 316. “Secrets Shall Be Revealed.” Please mark your calendars and make attend our ceremonial pre-registration session. In this meeting, faculty will introduce regular and unique course offerings for our very first May Term, as well as discuss revisions to offerings for Summer Term 2013 and Autumn Semester 2013. Conferences
2013 OSU Hip-hop Literacies Conference. February 15-16, 2013. Ohio Union and the Black Cultural Center. OSU will host the 2013 Hip-hop Literacies Conference, Pedagogies for Social Change, which features keynote lectures by Martha Diaz (NYU) and Christopher Emdin (Columbia). On February 16, Grammy nominated hip-hop pioneer Yo-Yo is the featured lecturer and performer at the King Arts Complex. There will be open mic performances, panels, and workshops, and the conference is free and open to the public. Space is limited and registration is required for all events. Travel & Study Abroad
Spring Break in Chicago! MFA student Erin Carlisle Norton and her company The Moving Architects will present Worlding with international guest artists Noa Zuk (Israel) and Joanie Audet (Quebec) on March 9-10, 2013. In addition, there will be Gaga Master classes traught by Noa Zuk available for professionals and free for college students on March 10-11, 2013. As part of the performances, Erin will be presenting her MFA Project Two Worlds and group work Loneland, and Noa will perform her works A Droom Come Tree and O.M.S. with Ariel Freedman. Grants, Awards & Funding
Semester Funding Initiative. Bi-annual call for student project proposals for the Semester Funding Initiative (SFI), which support research and project with awards ranging from $25 to $500. The application is available online at Slideroom, and requires a project description and budget. Due TODAY, Friday, February 1, 2013.
Coca-Cola Critical Difference for Women Research Grants 2013-2014. Applications now available. Through the generous support of the Coca-Cola Foundation, the Critical Difference for Women Program at OSU announces two grant competitions for 2013. One competition is open to OSU Faculty and the other is open to Graduate and Professional Students. Deadline for all applications is March 18, 2013.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
As part of her research for her senior project, Ella Matweyou will be teaching free yoga classes on Sunday mornings 11am-12pm in Pomerene 205, starting February 3, 2013. Anyone is welcome to come on a drop-in basis, but for the purposes of her project Ella would like as many dance majors as possible. Participants should bring a mat if they have one.
Erin Carlisle Norton is seeking undergraduate dance majors and graduate students for a super hip, site-specific dance work for the Spring Festival. Must be available to rehearse on Wednesdays from 12:45-2:45 starting in March. If you're interested or have questions, email Erin at carlisle-norton.1
From Mary McMullen:“Brek Matthew McMullen was born at 10:56am on January 16, 2013. At 3.5 weeks early, he weighed 5lbs 3.7oz and was 18.5" long. He is healthy and sweet! His big sister, Cora, loves him dearly and is already very protective of him. He went for his two week check is already up 5lbs 12oz and 20" long! He just could not wait until February 11 to see what all the commotion was outside my belly. We are so happy that Brek and I came out of the early delivery healthy and fine. We are very blessed!” Congratulations Mary!!!
