From one food to the other: what was once digital is dead & now lives on as a dance by Coco Loupe (MFA ’06) and They Might Be Dancers Too. September 28-29, 2012, 8pm at Feverhead, 1199 Goodale Blvd. Read the preview article from Columbus Alive!

Bebe Miller Company: A History continues through this weekend at the Black Box on Mershon Stage. September 27-30, 2012. Matinee added on Sunday!

The Adjudication for Winter Concert will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 between 9am and 12pm in Pomerene 316. The sign-up sheet is located in Pomerene 316. There will be a separate adjudication for ACDF, Movement Research, and the Spring Concert in December; stay tuned for more details!


Save the Date: Seven Dance Company. Seven, Columbus's premier contemporary dance company, will be presenting The Hour of the Unseen from November 2–4, 2012 at The Garden Theater in Columbus, Ohio.

Thinking Beyond Race: a public lecture with bell hooks will take place Monday, October 1 at 4:30pm in the Ohio Union, US Bank Conference Theater. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow. Read more at the WGSS website.

Artist Production Development Clinic at the Lincoln Theatre. October 27, 2012. 8:30am-12pm at the Lincoln Theatre (769 E. Long St.). The Lincoln Theatre will host a one-day clinic for local artists, arts organizations, and individuals interested in developing their performing arts product for the stage. The free clinic will include four classes offering one-on-one Q&A and networking opportunities with consultants and theatre staff. Classes will last approximately one hour and include: production planning, production staging, streaming and broadcast abilities, marketing and advertising, and legal issues. This event is part of Creative Control Fest.

         MASTER CLASSES & RESIDENCIES            


Lecture/Discussion with Catherine Turocy, Director of the NYC Baroque Dance Company. 8:30-10am on Monday, October 1, 2012. Room 205 of the Music & Dance Library. Catherine will speak about her work as a choreographer of Baroque opera productions in Europe and across the US, and her 20 years as director of the New York Baroque Dance Company.

          PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES        


Call for Submissions: Dance for Reel. November 27, 2012 at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Seeking dances that are specifically made for the camera and demonstrate creativity and excellence in both cinematography and choreography. Works must have been created after January 1, 2009 and should be no more than 15 minutes in length.

Call for Submissions: En Route Dance Film Festival. Deadline: October 29, 2012.

Interested in service learning? Please join Dave Covey and Meghan Durham-Wall, with dancers from ARC. The ARC dance program is an open class for dancers with and without disabilities. You are invited to dance with them every Friday from 1-2pm in Lincoln 202. Video from last spring!

Conferences
Want to attend ACDFA? With a little planning and fundraising, you can still attend even if you are not performing! MFA candidate Jill Guyton is looking for those interested in attending ACDFA - Take a trip to see performances from other universities in the area, and take classes from various professionals in the dance field! The conference will be held at Oakland University in Rochester, MI on February 20-23, 2013. OSU's Interdisciplinary Graduate Film Studies Group provides opportunities for viewing, reading, and discussion, as well as support for filmmaking and cinema appreciation efforts throughout campus. Learn from one another and form connections across disciplines while pursuing academic career development goals related to film studies. First event of the year: October 3, 2012 at 4:30 pm in Hagerty Hall 071.

          ADMINISTRATIVE NOTES & REMINDERS          


A Plea from Carrie “Carol Burnett” Cox: Body creams, oils, and other personal products that you apply to body parts are also applied to our studio floors when you make contact with the floor. To avoid slippery spots on the dance floors, refrain from using body products while in the studio. Double axels and death spirals belong only in the OSU Ice Rink.

Education for citizenship
As part of the university's effort to ensure that the voices of our students and employees are heard on November 6, everyone is encouraged to register  to vote — and to vote. Please remember that our efforts to encourage others to register to vote should be done in a non-partisan manner. Registration materials and answers to many registration and voting questions are available at the Secretary of State's website at and at the OSU Votes website. Join OSUVotes Monday, October 1 for The "Rock the Vote Bus Tour" (12-6pm) at The St. John’s Loop on Woodruff Ave.
