         SPECIAL EVENTS            


TONIGHT: Opening Reception: Dancing Dimensions: Movement through Time and SpaceSeptember 10, 2012.  5:30-7:30pm, Thompson Library Gallery. The exhibition highlights dance and movement collections of the Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute, and will include the drop and valence from Bebe Miller's "Heaven + Earth," the ballerina’s costume from Twyla Tharp's "Deuce Coupe," ACCAD's 3D animation based on "Landing Place," historic Labanotation scores, and more. Exhibit runs through December 30.

Stream: Outdoor Contemporary Dance Performances. September 14-15, 2012, 6:30pm at Dublin Arts Council. The public dress rehearsal, September 14 at 11am, and the Friday evening performance on the sloping riverfront grounds of DAC will also be streamed online. All events are free and open to the public.

Palissimo: The Painted Bird TrilogySeptember 12, 13 & 16, 2012 at the Wexner Center

Tour with Bebe Miller. September 13, 2012. 4-6pm at the Urban Arts Space. Join Bebe Miller, Candace Feck, and curators from the Wexner Center for a tour of the exhibit Bebe Miller: Tracing History.

         TRAVEL & STUDY ABROAD           


TODAY: Study Abroad Discussion September 10, 2012. 12:30-2pm in Pomerene 316. Thought about doing study abroad? Love to travel? Scared to leave the country? Wonder what intercultural exchange is? Come to the first forum for all students interested in learning more about study abroad. Students Quentin Burley, Abby Carlozzo, Rachel Switlick, and Cheyenne Abel, faculty Esther Baker-Tarpaga and Susan Petry, and guests from the Office of International Affairs will share. Bring your lunch and check it out!

         GRANTS, AWARDS & FUNDING           


Applications for the Semester Funding Initiative are open and due this Friday, September 14, 2012. Submit proposals for up to $500 in funding to support travel to conferences, research, the purchase of materials and supplies for projects, registration for festivals, and more! Information and applications are available on the OSUDance site. Awards will be decided based on merit of the proposal and the applicant’s GPA, with priority to first-time applicants and undergraduates in good academic standing who have completed at least 1 year in the program. Proposals must be for research or events happening in the future and cannot be reimbursements per university policy. SFI applications submitted in Autumn Semester must fund events in October-March. 

         MASTER CLASSES & RESIDENCIES           


Kendra Portier Master Class & Brown Bag. Wednesday, September 12, 2012. Kendra is an OSU alumna and dancer with David Dorfman. She will teach Abby Zbikowski’s 10:20am technique class in Pomerene 316, followed by a discussion on dancing in NYC. Bring a lunch!

Lecture-demonstration with Dr. Martha Eddy, founder of Moving for Life: Dance Exercise for Cancer Recovery. September 28, 2012.  5:30PM at BalletMet Columbus – 322 Mount Vernon Ave., Columbus, OH 43215.  Dr. Eddy will share her method of movement therapy for cancer patients.  More information on Dr. Eddy at Moving for Life. September 10-14, 2012 is Fall Undergraduate Research Week at OSU. Scheduled events include Faculty Perspectives on Research, Monday, September 10 at 4:30pm in 20 Page Hall; Spilling the Beans: The Secrets of Undergraduate Research (student panel), Tuesday, September 11 at 4:30pm in 100 Mendenhall Lab.; and culminating in the Student Poster Forum, Friday September 14) from 12-3pm in the Buckeye Reading Room at Thompson Library. The renovation of Sullivant Hall is on schedule and we expect to start the autumn semester of 2013 in our new home! From Chair Susan Petry: As we get into a smoother gear for this first Autumn Semester, I wanted to send out a brief update on the renovation process for Sullivant Hall, our home starting in Autumn 2013.           KUDOS & SHOUT-OUTS         


Erin Carlisle Norton (MFA 2013) will be in Morocco September 10-27, teaching and performing in Oujda, Casablanca, and Marrakech as part of her project research. The Moroccan portion of her research is supported by Danse 5 Festival and a Coca-Cola Critical Difference for Women Grant.  Congratulations Erin!
