Gotta Move: Women in Tap.
Monday, November 22, 2010; 8pm. Followed by Q&A with the artist and reception. Gateway Film Center, 1550 N High St. Columbus, Ohio. Free to the public! RSVP on Facebook.
Gotta Move: Women in Tap, directed by Lynn Dally, is a lively documentary chronicling five generations of phenomenal tap dancers who came together from across America to dance, to share stories, to talk tap, and to celebrate. With principal photography by filmmaker John Bishop, GOTTA MOVE acknowledges the contributions of these accomplished leaders in the renaissance of tap. Featuring live performances and personal stories by Chloe Arnold, Terry Brock, Brenda Bufalino, Heather Cornell, Lynn Dally, Michelle Dorrance, Barbara Duffy, Acia Gray, Deborah Mitchell, Miriam Nelson, Linda Sohl-Ellison, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Dianne Walker, and Josette Wiggan, GOTTA MOVE is a tribute to the creativity and brilliance of these Women In Tap.
Gotta Move was filmed live in Los Angeles in February 2008 at the first-ever conference for Women In Tap, a three day gathering of artists, filmmakers, dance historians, and tap enthusiasts who participated in concerts, master classes, seminars, and dialogues on the state of the art, the history and future of tap dance in America.
Lynn Dally co-founded the JAZZ TAP ENSEMBLE with dancers Fred Strickler and Camden Richman in 1979. As Artistic Director since 1986, she has continued to innovate in the field of rhythm tap with live jazz music, honoring the legends while mentoring gifted young artists. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Dally, grew to love tap dancing in the studios of her father, dance master Jimmy Rawlins. She was a dance major at Ohio State and went on to teach in the Dance Department from 1966-71.
Convenient $1 parking for 3 hours (with validation) is available in the Gateway Film Center garage located right next door to the cinema on both 9th & 11th avenues.
