Improv at the Farmers Market @ the Wexner Center Plaza

Contact Improv (CI) Jam & Class
Join us for our 2nd Contact Improv (CI) jam & class on Friday, October 15 from 7-9pm. There is a $3-5 suggested donation at the door, Columbus Dance Theater, 592 E. Main St. Eric Nordstrom will facilitate the jam by starting off working with CI essentials. Building upon foundational concepts and ideas, dancers will be able to play and experiment with their newly embodied skill sets in an open jam.

International Association of Blacks in Dance

Erin Carlisle Norton, graduate student in the OSU dance department, is seeking an unpaid administrative intern for her Chicago-based dance company The Moving Architects. This position is ideal for those interested in arts administration or forming a non-profit arts organization. Internship can be independent study credit winter and spring quarters. The Wexner Center for the Arts is currently looking for graduate students who are interested in planning and teaching interdisciplinary workshops to kids ranging from grades 1 – 12 during summer 2011. Workers in all disciplines are invited to apply. Collaborations and teams are encouraged; however you will split your stipend. If you are interested in submitting an idea/proposal for a workshop, please send a brief cover letter describing your interests and a copy of your resume or CV to Jean Pitman at by Thursday, November 4, 2010. The University Center for the Advancement of Teaching presents Planning for an Academic Job Search. This series of workshops, a collaborative effort by UCAT and Career Connection, addresses many aspects of the academic job search process. You are welcome to attend all sessions or just the ones that fit your needs and schedule.

• Vitae and Cover Letters

Thursday, October 14 at 3:30-5pm in 150 Younkin Success Center
This workshop will address how to write vitae and cover letters when searching for jobs in academia. Importance will be placed on both their format and content while highlighting career tips useful when applying for positions with a teaching and/or research emphasis.

• Teaching and Research Statements

Thursday, October 21 at 3:30-5pm in 150 Younkin Success Center
This workshop will provide an overview of each type of statement, describe how they are used in the academic job search process, and provide guidance on how to write them. There will be opportunities in the session to start the process of writing these statements.

• The Interview

Thursday, October 28 at 3:30-5pm in 150 Younkin Success Center
This workshop will highlight what to do before, during, and after an interview for positions in academia. Emphasis will be on career strategies, interviewing techniques, and familiarity with academic interview expectations. Samples of questions and practice opportunities will be provided, as well as useful suggestions to enhance confidence skills.

At 12:30pm on Friday, October 15 the department will hold the first Pre-Reg and Advising Colloquia of the 2010-11 year.

12:30-1:30pm: Pre-Reg
Students meet with advisors and other teaching faculty & staff to get handouts of the WI11 major and non-major schematics and to hear about the special offerings for the upcoming quarter. Enrollment appointments begin Monday 18 October.
