Week 6 Announcements: May 3-9

Featured video: Michael Kelly Bruce's work, Let's Dance, is about dancing in a community, small groups, and alone, with music from the Depression era, 1980s clubs, as well as music inspired by Thomas Manns short story, Disillusionment. Featured video: Esther Baker-Tarpaga's Down the Road explores the intersection between love, violence, and the collision of past and present. Costumed in red, the cast of 14 dancers perform to music composed and performed live by Michael Wall and Olivier Tarpaga. Down the Road is part of Dance Downtown 2010 on May 7 & 8. The Argentine Tango Student Organization at OSU, together with ATCO: Argentine Tango in Columbus, Ohio, the student organization in charge of Tango events, are delighted to invite anyone with the slightest interest in Argentine Tango to the main event this year: an intensive weekend with Paris Tango Masters Thierry Le Cocq and Alessia Lyndin May 7-9, 2010.

OUAB's upcoming "Get Up and Dance with SYTYCD" event for May 10
Ohio Union Performance Hall doors will open at approximately 6pm. The event will begin at 7pm and provide about a 60 minute dance performance featuring Fox TV's previous "So You Think You Can Dance" contestants: Joshua Allen, Katee Shean, tWitch, Comfort, and Megan and Caitlin Kinney. Following their performance, there will be a brief intermission. After the intermission, Katee, Josh, tWitch, and Comfort will provide a short dance tutorial for any students who wish to stay, follow along, and learn a thing or two about dance. The overall event should end by 9:30pm at the latest. Tickets are free and can be received at the Ohio Union Information Center, 1 per BUCKID while supplies last beginning April 26!

Ballet Dancers Needed
OSU student Hilary Burkard is in charge of putting on the Student Fashion Show at the new Union this May 15 at 7pm. She's looking for some ballet dancers to dance for a few minutes at the show. If you're interested please email her at

Dance Teacher Needed

Erica Conley is seeking a body movement teacher to come in and help her color guard kids at Dublin Jerome High School. Rehearsals are in the autumn once or twice a week and spring on Thursdays and in the summer as well. There is some money in the budget to pay a little. ADF students will have the opportunity to audition to perform on ADF's mainstage in Past/Forward! Ryan Ghysels will set the late Jerome Robbins' West Side Story Suite (1995) on ADF dancers. Also on the program, longtime Merce Cunningham Dance Company member Jean Freebury reconstructs the late artist’s Inlets 2 (1983), a peaceful and serene work set to a score by John Cage. Rounding out the program, Russian choreographer and ADF favorite Tatiana Baganova creates an ADF commissioned World Premiere.
