BalletMet Momentum

The BalletMet Education Department is in need of fifteen volunteers at the Capitol Theatre to assist 400 children with their BalletMet Momentum rehearsal and end of year performance, on Tuesday, May 25 and Wednesday, 26, 2010.

Momentum engages students throughout the academic year in dance classes that are part of their school curriculum. Children learn about movement, music, choreography and performance. Momentum also use dance as a springboard to help children develop personal goals towards excellence, discipline and self-confidence. The weekly Momentum classes culminate with all 400 children performing in "Dancing Down the Road to Good Heath" in the Opening, Finale
and a school dance.

Momentum Volunteers, or MoVos, will be assigned to a classroom of third, fourth or fifth grade boys and girls and their teachers, and will assist them during the rehearsal and performance. MoVos responsibilities include: knowing where their classroom of children need to be and when; helping with costumes, props, lunch and bathroom breaks; and assisting the classroom teacher with making the day successful for the students.

The rehearsal times on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, will be 8:00am-12:00pm. For the performance day on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, all MoVos will be at the theater from 8:00am-3:00pm. The location for both days is at the Capitol Theatre in Downtown Columbus.

MoVos must enjoy being with children, have a positive energy and be comfortable standing on their feet for long periods of time. Please keep in mind that as a MoVo you must be punctual and be fully committed to both days. All MoVos will receive lunch on May 26th, a Momentum t-shirt and memories to last a lifetime!

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Melanie Ryan at 614-229-4860 x129 or mryan@balletmet.org by March 8, 2010.
