Registration begins at 5:00 pm
Dublin Arts Council (DAC) The Ohio State University Department of Dance and OhioDance are partnering to present a unique opportunity for the development and performance of a site-specific outdoor contemporary dance work that incorporates educational opportunities. This contemporary dance project, entitled “Gravity’s Ripple,” is part of DAC’s ongoing program, “Ripple Effect: Artistic Impact of the Scioto River.”
The audition is for all Ohio State University Department of Dance majors, minors and graduate students, alumni, and faculty. The audition will be held in the dance studios at The Ohio State University Department of Dance, Sullivant Hall, 1813 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43210.
OhioDance has selected Ohio choreographer Annie Kloppenberg to create a new site-specific work for “Gravity’s Ripple”. Kloppenberg will select a group of Ohio State University dancers from the audition to co-create and perform in this new work. It is important to note that this will be a collaborative project between choreographer and dancers and those dancers should have a level of comfort or interest in working improvisationally. Dancers should also be prepared for both the performances and educational activities to be held outdoors. Selected dancers will receive a small stipend for the residency.
The residency takes place September 15-19, 2009 and will include master classes and workshops culminating in open rehearsals and two free public performances. The evening performances will be no more than 40 minutes in length. Activities will take place at Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Drive in Dublin, Ohio. Some rehearsals may take place at OSU.
Candidates must be available for all rehearsals, master classes, dress rehearsals and both performances during the residency, Sept 15-19, 2009:
- Two master class sessions will be held simultaneously for elementary and high school students at 10:00 am on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009.
- Dress rehearsal on Friday, Sept. 18 at 11:00am.
- Two evening performances
- The public performance is Sept. 18, 2009 at 6:30 pm.
- The second, an invitation-only performance, is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2009 at 6:30 pm. Following the performances, a question and answer session will be held with the choreographer, dancers and audience.
Please bring a detailed schedule of availability during the residency and a brief bio to the audition. Please warm-up and be ready to dance at 6:00 pm. There is no fee for the audition.
