Dance for Camera Alumni Call for Entries
The Department of Dance at the Ohio State University is pleased to announce a dance for camera works call for entries created by department alumnae. This alumnae evening will be presented as part of our annual autumn dance on camera programs, and will be screened on October 28, 2009 at 7:00 pm in Sullivant Hall Theatre. Works may have been created here at OSU, or after graduation. The following genres will be accepted:
• Choreography for the Camera - original work made specifically for the video/film medium
• Live work transformed for the camera (performance documentation will not be adjudicated)
• Documentary - productions that include interviews or other educational elements in addition to dancing
• Experimental/Digital Technologies - work that extends the boundaries of the medium and exists only in the realm of video, film or new technologies
Works may not exceed 10 minutes TRT and in the interest of screening as many works as possible, shorter works are preferred. For those of you that have produced longer creative works or documentaries, we hope that you could put together a short or a section that is no more than 10 minutes in length. Work will be selected by panel and 8 to 12 works will be featured. You will be notified of decisions by September 15, 2009. Applicants submitting works must have graduated from the OSU Department of Dance in or prior to spring 2009. The postmark deadline for submissions is 5:00 pm Friday, August 14, 2009. Only Region 1 or All Region DVD formats will be accepted. Include a SASE if you wish your film returned. Please direct inquiries to Julie Fox (firstname.lastname@example.org). Download the flyer and application form here for more information on how to submit.

OSU Dance and Columbus Movement Movement (cm2) invite you to come dance this summer in the second annual Columbus Summer Dance Festival from June 15-June 27, 2009. The festival integrates two exciting weeks of contemporary approaches to ballet, modern, hip hop, and yoga with a vibrant teaching faculty, whose creative passions and teaching philosophies underscore a contemporary approach to movement forms.
Artists include Movement Research Artist-in-Residence Yvonne Meier; New York-based hip-hop artist Manwe; former Cuban Ballet and Elisa Monte dancer Marden Ramos; yoga teacher extraordinaire Laurel Hodory, and dynamic, articulate teacher/choreographer Meghan Durham, director of Meghan Durham/Merge Dance. Two master classes will feature a Horton based technique with Maria Glimcher, and improvisation technique with Noelle Chun, blending into an open jam on Saturday, June 20th.
The festival offers three class periods a day, including two morning technique classes, followed by an intensive repertory experience each afternoon. Repertory participants will be creating new works with professional choreographers to perform in a final festival showing. Quarterly college computer lab clean up of scratch disks (our Medialab) will take place beginning the evening next Friday, June 19. Anyone with data on the scratch disks needs to back-up their data via their external hard drive by 5pm of the Friday of break week, June 19th. Graduating students need to take their data with them, as the data will be gone permanently after this date. Due to the number of students in Arts and Humanities, college IT is not moving data from the scratch disks to be stored somewhere else for later use. When the disks are cleaned the data will be permanently deleted.
If you have questions about the scratch disks and Medialab data, please contact the College Help Desk directly at 292-1059. If you have questions about concert tapes, please contact department digital media associate Melissa Bontempo at 688-0125.
Important Side Note to Graduating Students: Once you have graduated and are no longer paying college tech fees, you cannot use the Medialab computers or equipment and you cannot copy concert tapes. You also cannot ask the department staff to do this for you, either now or at a later date. It is each students’ responsibility to get the performance data they will need in the future. (all the other departments in the college follow this same practice for student data) Please make copies for your future needs before next Friday, June 19. Please note that due to certain intellectual property laws and dept contracts, some dept guest artist choreography cannot be copied.
