REMINDER FROM THE MEDIA LAB

Over the summer as part of some new IT changes, the minuet server will be rebuilt. As a result, any and all data that you have stored on the server (this means, in your home area) will be deleted including your sites folder, your desktop, anything the in documents, music, or movies folders.

Please take the time to back up anything you want to still have when you come back in the fall. I would recommend doing this soon since it can be easy to forget things like this as the quarter comes to an end.

UGU SAYS GOODBYE FOR THE YEAR

Thanks for your attendance today at the short but sweet "UGU Cities Fair!" As you know, we are developing these events in
response to your ideas and requests that you shared during the UGU Party. Clearly we could have spent another hour just talking about how to thrive in the dance world, sharing contacts, and helping you build a survival net, but we are happy that we got the short time that we did with you today. For those who were unable to attend, you can look forward to more developed Cities Fair in the Fall.

For those of you who are graduating, we wish you the absolute best in this transition, and encourage you to keep in touch and use your OSU connections. Be good to yourselves! For those who are returning next year, have a fantastic summer full of exploration and inspiration. Annie Beserra will be taking over the coordinating reigns for UGU next Fall (I'm graduating), and you are in good hands with your Grad Buddies.

Thank you for helping to initiate this strong and vital connection between Grads and Undergrads, and for making the beginnings of UGU a success!

-Karen Ivy, UGU Coordinator 2006-2007 and the UGU Committee

GUGGENHEIM FELLOWSHIP AWARDS, 2007

JOHN SIMON GUGGENHEIM MEMORIAL FOUNDATION 2007 United States and Canadian Fellows
Since 1925 the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation has annually offered Fellowships to artist, scholars, and scientists in all fields. The 2007 Committee of Selection, drawing on recommendations from panels and juries involving hundreds of distinguished artists, scholars, and scientists, has chosen 189 Fellows from 2,773 applicants for awards totaling $7,600,000. Guggenheim Fellows are appointed on the basis of unusually impressive achievement in the past and exceptional promise for future accomplishment.

In a time of decreased funding for individuals in the arts, humanities, and sciences, the Guggenheim Fellowship program has assumed a greatly increased importance, and the Foundation is successfully raising funds to enable the appointment of a larger number of Fellows each year. Scores of Nobel, Pulitzer, and other prize winners appear on the roll of Fellows, which includes Ansel Adams, W. H. Auden, Aaron Copland, Martha Graham, Langston Hughes, Henry Kissinger, Vladimir Nabokov, Isamu Noguchi, Linus Pauling, Philip Roth, Paul Samuelson, Wendy Wasserstein, Derek Walcott, James Watson, and Eudora Welty.

OSU DANCE WELCOMES SUSAN RETHORST

Join us in welcoming Susan Rethorst to the department.

Rethorst teaches from the point of view that making is an endless quest with ever-shifting ground. Encouraging an attitude of fueling work with one's questions, not regarding plans or themes as pre-requisites, she regards teaching as a conversational mode: exercises are proposals in action.

She is here for five weeks, teaching "Current Issues" and "Grad Comp" andavailable for other meetings, gatherings, conversations, viewing work....

AND A NOTE FROM SUSAN, HERSELF...

Hello, OSU !!!!

I am here as a guest with light teaching load so that I am available for other things as well - individual help with projects, watching rehearsals, conversations about dance in Europe (as I teach there a lot also)..what else? whatever you think might be useful.....

I am planning to do a sign up class for undergrads - keep an eye out for that..

AND, I will take this opportunity to spread the word about a super summer program I started, called SUPA - takes place in June.

SUPA 2007

Festival for Choreographers

Tere O'Connor Susan Rethorst Ann Carlson Roseanne Spradlin

Studio Upsun* in Pennsylvania is a new initiative designed to provide opportunities to engage in in-depth investigations of choreographic practices. We have looked for rigorous and sophisticated choreographers who are also interested in teaching and its relationship to making. We have given them an entire week to work with a limited amount of students (max 14) via composition, repertory, mentoring, or any combination of practices they feel useful. It is our hope that these workshops will result in a give and take of knowledge and practice that is rigorous, personal, intense, and intensely pleasurable.

*Upsun: (noun) the period between the rising and setting of the sun.
